One of British gaming's best-known characters is heading back to a real 16-bit cartridge. On 17 October 2026, Dizzy creators Philip and Andrew Oliver unveiled The Eggcellent Dizzy Collection at Crash Live in Coventry. The planned Sega Mega Drive-compatible release gathers three adventures on one cartridge, with a Kickstarter campaign still to come.
Three sides of Dizzy on one cartridge
The collection includes Dizzy the Adventurer, Go! Dizzy Go! and Panic! Dizzy. Together they cover a wider range of play than the egg-shaped hero's best-known puzzle adventures: an attempt to rescue Daisy, fast-paced maze challenges and a trio of puzzle-based tests.
It's being positioned as a collectible physical release for Sega Mega Drive hardware, not a compilation exclusively for modern digital storefronts. That is particularly welcome for players who still keep their original consoles connected.
Why this release has an unusually long history
The new cartridge revisits unfinished business from the 1990s. On their own website, the Oliver Twins explain that these three games were converted for the Master System, Game Gear and Mega Drive and grouped as The Excellent Dizzy Collection. The Master System and Game Gear editions saw limited releases, but the Mega Drive version never reached shops.
That makes the newly announced Eggcellent collection more than a routine anniversary package: it offers a fresh opportunity for Mega Drive owners to receive a combination that was prepared for their system decades ago. The exact relationship between the original conversions and the final new cartridge will need clarification as the campaign develops.
What has — and hasn't — been announced
The Kickstarter preview page is live, allowing interested fans to request a launch notification. The crowdfunding campaign has not yet opened, and the announcement does not confirm a price, funding target or detailed production schedule. Dizzy's 40th anniversary falls in 2027, but prospective buyers should wait for the full campaign terms before assuming a specific shipping date or regional compatibility.
Console Revive take
We have a soft spot for new physical releases that reward people for keeping their original consoles alive. The fact that this Mega Drive collection follows a version that never made it to retail gives it a particularly compelling preservation angle. We'll be watching for confirmed cartridge compatibility, production details and a realistic delivery timetable before treating it as a finished product.
