AYN's newest premium Android handheld is entering the preorder stage. The Odin 3 Portal pairs a seven-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with Qualcomm's Dragonwing Q8 processor, a 9,000mAh battery and Android 15. AYN's official store lists a launch price starting at $399, with shipping scheduled to begin in early November 2026.
What makes the Portal different?
The standard Odin 3 is built around a smaller six-inch display. The Portal's larger seven-inch panel makes it a different proposition for people who prefer a spacious screen for handheld gaming and retro emulation. AYN also lists full-size Hall-effect sticks, ergonomic grips, a 450g weight and UFS 3.1 storage. The Dragonwing Q8 is a high-end chip, but real-world performance and battery life will depend on software, emulator compatibility, cooling and settings.
Four configurations, including a new 1TB option
AYN lists Base (12GB RAM/128GB storage), Pro (12GB/256GB), Max (16GB/512GB) and Max (16GB/1TB) versions on its official product page. Launch pricing reported on 21–22 October starts at $399 for Base, $479 for Pro and $549 for the 512GB Max. The newly added 1TB Max has been reported at $669 during the introductory offer. Prices are in US dollars and may change; UK buyers should check shipping, taxes and import costs at checkout.
Preorder timing and the small print
AYN's official listing says shipping begins in early November and that no games are preinstalled. It also lists a one-year warranty. At the time of this report, the Base model page indicates backorder status. As with any preorder, manufacturing and fulfilment estimates are not guaranteed; check the live listing before ordering.
What does this mean for retro players?
The appeal is the combination of a large OLED display, physical controls and a powerful Android platform that can run compatible emulation software. However, raw chipset specifications do not guarantee flawless performance for every GameCube, PS2 or other system. Game compatibility depends on emulator development, configuration and legally obtained game files. Anyone primarily interested in older 8-bit and 16-bit libraries may find that a smaller, more affordable device meets their needs just as well. Console Revive's retro gaming handhelds collection offers a useful starting point for exploring different sizes and budgets; the Odin 3 Portal is not a Console Revive product.
Console Revive take
We're interested in the Portal because it shows how quickly modern handheld hardware is progressing, especially for fans who want a single portable device for several generations of games. Still, a premium price deserves a premium experience. We'd wait for independent hands-on testing of sustained performance, ergonomics, thermals and battery life before declaring it a must-buy.
